JAKARTA, Indonesia — Indonesia’s best courtroom on Monday dominated in opposition to lowering the least age of presidential and vice presidential candidates as the nation gears up for election in 2024.
The court’s choice is closing and cannot be appealed.
In August, seven politicians — including from the Indonesian Solidarity Occasion chaired by the youngest son of existing President Joko Widodo — filed a petition in opposition to the existing age restrict for candidates, inquiring it to be reduced to 35 as a substitute of 40, arguing it was discriminatory.
The 7-to-2 choice by the nine-judge panel of the Constitutional Courtroom turned down the arguments, declaring it wasn’t the court’s role to alter the age restrict for candidates and that it was up to the parliament to established these types of guidelines.
