NEW DELHI: At least 50 people were killed and 60 harmed after an earthquake of size 7 1 struck near the Tibet-Nepal verge on Tuesday morning, as reported by China’s state media through AFP.
The quake, which happened at 6 35 am IST, had its epicentre in Tibet region, about 93 km northeast of Lobuche , Nepal, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake, centred at a depth of 10 kilometres, also created tremors in Bihar and numerous components of North India. Lobuche, situated near the Khumbu Glacier in Nepal, lies approximately 150 kilometres eastern of Kathmandu and is close to the Everest Base Camp.
China’s earthquake tracking agency videotaped the quake’s size as 6 8, with the epicentral area at an elevation of about 4, 200 metres (13, 800 feet), according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Better, based on NCS data, 2 even more earthquakes struck the region later on in the early morning.
One of size 4 7 was taped at 7: 02 AM IST, with its center at latitude 28 60 degrees North and longitude 87 68 degrees East, at a deepness of 10 kilometers.
Another quake of size 4 9 happened at 7: 07 AM IST, with its center at latitude 28 68 degrees North and longitude 87 54 degrees East, at a deepness of 30 kilometers.
