Costa Rica pulls back on UN backed weather agreement named in its honor

Costa Rica’s Congress on Wednesday blocked the country’s ratification of a U.N.-backed environmental treaty named immediately after 1 of the Central American country’s municipalities, soon after it missing guidance from the administration.
The treaty, regarded as the Escazu Arrangement, was signed in the Escazu region west of Costa Rica’s capital in 2018, when Carlos Alvarado was president.
