Israel confirms US probe into Shireen Abu Akleh’s killing
Israel confirmed has confirmed that the United States governing administration has started an investigation into the deadly shooting of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, condemning the probe as a “grave mistake” and vowing not to cooperate
JERUSALEM — Israel verified on Monday that the U.S. Section of Justice has commenced an investigation into the fatal capturing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, condemning the probe as a “grave mistake” and vowing not to cooperate.
Israeli Protection Minister Benny Gantz created the statement on Twitter, stating Israel has designed it crystal clear to the U.S. “that we will not cooperate with any external investigation.”
“We will not enable interference in Israel’s inside affairs,” he extra.
Palestinian officials, Abu Akleh’s family members and Al Jazeera accuse Israel of deliberately concentrating on and killing the 51-calendar year-previous journalist, a U.S. citizen who was wearing a helmet and a protective vest marked with the term “press” when she was shot past May possibly in the occupied West Financial institution.
Israel has acknowledged that Israeli fire almost certainly killed Abu Akleh, but vigorously denied allegations that a soldier deliberately targeted her.
A Justice Department spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment about Gantz’s assertion.
