REVIEW – When we moved into a new house two years ago, we had a long wish list of things we wanted to do to enhance it. One of those things was to add some lighting into the backyard so that we could enjoy our pool better after dark. We have a back porch area with a light on a ceiling fan, but that porch is about six feet above the level of the pool deck, so the lighting does not cover the pool deck or pool at all. I have a few solar lights around the deck, but they only light up enough to show where the deck ends, and the landscaping begins. Until we get more money saved up to install low-voltage LED lighting, I have been looking for other ways to light up the area. I have ‘work lights’ that require plugging into an outlet that can light up the area well. The problem is that they require an outlet and get very hot. The ones I have also do not have adjustable light levels. The Olight Odiance is a portable work light that runs off a lithium battery. It has adjustable light levels and color temperatures. Let’s see how well it lights up our life!

Design and features
The Odiance light has a handle with a standard tripod hole that allows it to be easily screwed onto any standard tripod.
In the back of the unit, you can find the two control knobs, the charging ports, and the remote control. The white knob is the color temperature knob. It has ten levels and can go from 2700k to 6000k color temperatures. The blue knob is the power and brightness control. This knob is stepless so you can set the brightness between 200-3000 lumens at any level. To the right of the blue knob, you will see the rubber flap covering the charging ports. I will talk more about that later. Below the charging ports, you can see the remote control. To the left of the remote you will see a white battery icon with four LED lights. These will light up when you charge the unit or turn it on to indicate the battery level.
The next two pictures show the remote control removed from the unit and the remote’s slot. I feel this is a really nice feature. The remote is held in place by magnets, and two slots are cut into the sides of the remote. It simply slides into place via the slots and is held firmly by the magnets. You have to turn the Odiance on before you can use the remote. Once the unit is on, the remote can power it off and on with a single quick click of the appropriate button. Long pressing the off button will decrease the brightness while long pressing the on button will increase the brightness. On the east/west buttons of the remote you can control the color temperature of the light. A single click of the appropriate button will increase or decrease the color temperature by a step.
I photographed the charging port area with the flap lifted up. I am happy to note that the flap stays firmly in place when pressed back down. I am sure this is part of what led it to have the IPX5 rating. The USB-C port is the port that is used for charging. It can also charge an external device from the Odiance’s battery, like a phone. The USB port is also there as a port to charge external devices. I learned that the USB-C port can work both ways when I tried to use the Odiance to drain a portable lithium battery I was testing. It drained the battery, then immediately started to charge the external battery back up once the Odiance was fully charged. That is something to remember if you charge it with another portable battery device. It took about six hours to charge the Odiance with an external 65W power adapter fully. The Odiance supports up to 35W fast charging of external devices.
Here is a picture of the Odiance with the battery indicator showing it has about 75% power remaining.
Here is a picture of the front of the unit so you can see all its LEDs. Like most work lights, there is a wire cage in front of the light source. I am happy to note that even after running at full brightness for over 7 hours, the cage never felt more than very warm to the touch. I could keep my hand on the cage with no issues.
The handle has ten positions it can be adjusted to. The pictures below show the top, middle, and bottom positions of the handle.
Performance
To test out the light, I set it up on a tripod on my back porch to shine it down on the main eating and hanging-out area of my pool deck.
As you can see in the picture below, my deck has some solar lights around the edges to keep folks from stepping off the deck and into the flower beds. I turned all exposure adjustments off of my phone camera settings. The first picture is the lowest brightness setting of the white light, and the second picture is the brightest setting of the white light. Even at the lowest setting, we have enough usable light for the area. I would turn the knob just a touch to make it a bit brighter if we were actually eating.
These next two pictures show the lowest and highest settings for the warm yellow light. This is the setting I would go with for future usage in our pool area. It does give a nice warm glow and is not as piercing as the bright white light. Again I would most likely bump up the brightness just a bit from the lowest setting for our use.
I took a picture from the side of the white light settings to give you a different perspective of the light coverage. The white light is very intense at its brightest settings when you look at the shadows it generates.
I then recharged the Odiance to full battery power to test how long the battery would last. I put the light on its brightest setting at the white level and let it run. It ran almost eight hours before going out. That is impressive! Knowing that I would never run this light at its highest setting lets me know I could easily have over 16 hours of light available.

I love the Olight Odiance Work Light! It is my new favorite toy for lighting up the backyard or my work area in the garage. It does not get hot to the touch and lasts for a very long time. If anyone is looking for a portable work light that could easily last an entire workday, I think this is the light to get.
