REVIEW – It seems like everything today needs some sort of electricity to work, but there are never enough outlets. Even when you do have an outlet, half the time you have to plug in a large bulky plug that takes up more room than it should, and blocks the other outlets from being used. The TROND retractable power strip tower helps solve both of those problems.

What is it?

The TROND retractable power strip tower is an extension cord with multiple outlets, a surge protector, two USB-C, and two USB-A ports. One USB-C is fast charging, or PD, and the other three USB slots are smart. The tower I got has a five foot retractable cable, but other options for up to 15 feet are available.

What’s included?

  • TROND retractable power strip
  • Double sided mounting tape

Tech specs

  • PD 20W USB-C port
  • USB-A and USB-C 15W ports
  • 5FT retractable power cord
  • 12 widely-spaced AC sockets
  • 1700 Joules surge protector
  • Flat plug. Only .33 inches
  • On/Off switch

Design and features

The TROND retractable power strip tower helps solve the problems of too many plugs, and not enough outlets. There are 12 plugs available. Each side has three plugs and is spaced further apart to give those irritating bulky plugs enough room and not cover up the other outlets. Also, there are two USB-C ports, one being a 20W fast charge, or PD, the other being 15W. USB-A also has two ports, so charging devices becomes much simpler. No more finding the right brick to plug in, so you can plug your cord into that, and then plug in your phone. Or whatever you are charging. At my computer desk, I am always switching out which things get plugged in, and what I’m using at the moment. If I need a certain printer, or fan, or monitor, or whatever, there just aren’t enough outlets, and I really don’t want to deal with cord management when everything is plugged in. Plus having everything plugged in can also suck a lot of electricity that I don’t even know it’s using. There is a nice power button on the top of this tower that you can just turn off.

The retractable cord I got was only five feet, but bigger ones can be purchased instead if you need something longer. The cord is perfect for where I am putting it. You know how some retractable things have a click that sets it at a certain length, and you have to release it to make it short again? This doesn’t do that. It is just a pull out, and wind the top to bring it back. This does make it difficult if you have to change the length without unplugging everything. The cords would get very tangled. It is possible, but also difficult, and not suggested.

The end to plug this tower into the wall is very low profile. There is so much space saved by being able to push furniture against the wall instead of making sure you’re not crushing plugs. The plug is only .33” and is flat even compared with other flat plugs. It’s probably my favorite feature.

Final thoughts

Trond retractablepowerstriptower 3

I love being able to have so many available outlets. It is amazingly easy to extend and retract. The safety features are up to code, and it even has a fast charging port. The plug is a low profile flat plug that veers right to make sure other outlets aren’t blocked, and I can push things against the wall without touching the plugs. All great things for a great product. Now I can spend more time crafting, and less time following cords to figure out what is actually plugged in and what I can unplug.

What I like about the TROND retractable power strip tower

  • So many outlets (12)
  • The outlets are spaced out enough to utilize them all even if bulky plugs are involved.
  • Fast charging USB-C
  • Two USB-C,  and two USB-A
  • Power switch to control the whole unit
  • Retractable cord is quiet and easy to extend or retract
  • Super low profile flat plug- only .33”

What needs to be improved?

  • Retracting the cord while things are plugged in is very difficult. The cords get tangled easily.
