REVIEW – I have been happily printing with my Bambu Labs P1S FDM printer. It’s alot more reliable and consistent than my old Anycubic 4Max Pro 2.0. With things are printing so well, I’m more comfortable switching things up like using different types of filaments and build plates. The Tyson T-95 Build Plate is the first 3rd-party build plate that I’ve used with my P1S. What’s my verdict? Short answer…so good! But please read on.

What is it?
As the name denotes, the Tyson T-95 Build Plate is a build plate for FDM printers, in my case for the Bambu Labs P1S. I ordered the T-95 material at 0.75mm thickness and with a triangle-etched design on one side and a smooth surface on the other side.
Tyson Build Plates also have plates for :
- Annex K3
- Bambu Lab A1, P1P, P1S, X1C, X1E
- Prusa Mk4 and Mk3
- Qidi Tech Plus 4, Q1-Pro
- Voron 300mm, V0
What’s included?
Tech specs
- Thickness: 0.75mm (1.0mm also available)
- Base Metal Type: T-95 (T-6436 also available)
- Material: Tempered 1095 spring steel (T-6436 utilize a specialized superalloy)
- Coating: Tyson coating on both sides
- Etched Pattern: Triangle (None, TriStar, Hexagon, Interlocked Hexagon, Inverted Triangle, ShadedBricks, 3D Cubic Tessellation, CarbonFiber, Crystals, and Custom patterns are also available)
- Filament Compatibility: Universal, except for TPI (T-95)
- Heat Resistance: up to 230º (T-95)
- Cleaning: Industrial cleaners, IPA, or acetone (T-95)
- ID: The T-95 that I received had a taped on ArUco Buildplate identification code taped on. The website now indicates that Bambu Labs A1, P1P, and P1S plates now will no longer contain this code. (The website does show that the T-95 plate for the Bambu Labs X1C and X1E will have the code – not sure why)
Design and features
I always appreciated the PEI texture plate that came with my Bambu Labs P1S, but sometimes I did not want the rough texture to show on my prints. I had heard about build plate decals that would transfer whatever surface design to 3D prints. I had my reservations about stickers and the heat of the printer chamber. But the Tyson T-95 Build Plate is a solid build plate, and I think it may be more sturdy and long-lasting than the stock plate.
I chose the T-95 plate from Tyson over the T-6436 plate because the T-95 plate is compatible with almost all filaments, the exception being TPI (Thermoplastic Polyamides). The T-6436 plate was for PLA and PETG only…at least that was stated on the Tyson Build website at the time I asked to review this product. Now a month later, I cannot find this information on their website any longer. According to their website, the same limitation exists for both plate types now.
I did encounter two conditions that needed to be paid attention to when using the Tyson T-95 Build Plate. The first was with the increase in plate thickness; the magnetic pull is VERY strong now, and getting the new plate lined up took some practice. But now, I don’t need to give it a second thought.
The other consideration was…fingerprints! Both sides of the Tyson T-95 Build Plate are shiny and show every…single…fingerprint. Since whatever is on the build plate imprints on the 3D print, that includes any and all fingerprints. Good thing the Tyson T-95 build plate can be cleaned with industrial solvents including acetone, IPA, industrial degreasers, or simply soap and water. I use a lens wipe to wipe the build plate after each print.
Assembly, Installation, Setup
The only setup involved was removing the Tyson T-95 Build Plate from the Ziploc pouch, cleaning it, then sliding it into the printer.
Performance
The first thing I noticed with the Tyson T-95 Build Plate was how much more stiff and heavy it is compared to the stock PEI textured build plate from Bambu Labs. It makes sense because the stock plate is .5mm thick, whereas the Tyson T-95 Build Plate is 0.75mm. There is an option to purchase a build plate that is 1.0mm thick.
I have had ZERO problems printing on the Tyson T-95 Build Plate! Everything from PLA (including silks), to PETG-HF, PETG-CF, and ABS prints without issue with excellent layer adhesion. The only instances of problems were a result of PETG not being sufficiently dried out.
Final thoughts
I’m printing almost exclusively on the Tyson T-95 Build Plate. I’ve had no issues printing on either side, the smooth side or on the triangle etching side. I’m extremely happy with the print quality and also the look of the triangle etching. I can see picking up a few of the other designs, like the carbon fiber print.
Getting back to the subject of the difference between the T-95 and T6436 build plates from Tyson…I reached out via chat and was given this response:
“The T-95 plate is made from Tempered 1095 spring steel. The T-6436 uses a superalloy for superior molten plastic compatibility. Both can print the same materials. You can print directly on the metal if you use T-6436’s bare metal side.”
Another thing that has changed since getting my Tyson T-95 Build Plate is that the ArUco “QR-code” stickers do not come taped to the T-95 build plates anymore for the Bambu Labs A1, P1P, or P1S. These are workarounds, and it should not be a huge problem, but something to be aware of.
What I like about the Tyson T-95 Build Plate
- Sticky! I’ve had no problems with any filaments sticking
- Design on one side and plain on the other side
- Compatible with almost ALL filaments
- Made and Manufactured in the USA
What needs to be improved?
- Not really a con, but the 0.75mm plate thickness is considerably thicker and less flexible than the stock PEI plate
- Again, not a con, but make sure any fingerprints are removed, otherwise it will be on your print
- No more ArUco stickers on Bambu Labs A1, P1P, or P1S
- Expensive, but worth it
