NG-19, the 19th professional resupply mission from Northrop Grumman, introduced from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia on Aug. 1. It was named immediately after Laurel Clark, a NASA astronaut who died (with 6 other astronauts) in the course of the Columbia space shuttle disaster in 2003. NG-19 was also the final mission to launch on a version of Northrop Grumman’s Antares rocket that utilized a 1st phase designed in Ukraine.

The spacecraft is now docked to the U.S. Unity module on the ISS’ Earth-dealing with port. To detach it, flight controllers on the ground will instruct the robotic Canadarm2 to perform the method, and then shift the freighter for release. NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara “will check Cygnus’ techniques on its departure from the house station,” NASA officers wrote in the launch.

Cygnus’ actual day to return to Earth has not been unveiled. The spacecraft will carry out undisclosed “secondary payload operations” just before it is commanded in early January to plunge into Earth’s environment, where by it will burn up up with trash on board.

The other industrial cargo craft now energetic for NASA, SpaceX‘s Dragon capsule, can provide science back to Earth, as it is designed to survive the fiery vacation through our planet’s ambiance and splash down in the ocean.
