Hefty rains pelt New Zealand, forcing hundreds to evacuate

About 230 residences in the town of Nelson were evacuated Wednesday and remained off-restrictions overnight immediately after the Maitai River flooded. The military services patrolled the area overnight.
Resident Robin Reichert told news outlet Things that she was “utterly shocked” when her road turned into a raging torrent.

Yet another 160 households in the city of Westport have been also temporarily evacuated with citizens afterwards permitted to return.
